Marhakh - the killer in most of transgenders murder cases - The Nation

peshawar    -   Body of a transgender person lied in a pool of blood at a hospital in Peshawar, with no family member around the body since many such people flee their homes when they cannot find space there due to their gender.

Mano, who belonged to Malakand district, had been living in Peshawar with her community. She was shot dead and later buried in Peshawar, as the relatives did not take the body to their village. Her only mourners with her body were her trans community members.

Mano was reportedly killed by a Marhakh, a term meaning a boyfriend in the community, in Peshawar the other day.

A transgender person, Farzana, said that she fled her home in young age because she could not adjust with her family members.

"When there used to be some ceremony, my family would not take me there because they thought my behaviour was abnormal being a shemale. I could not socialise there. This is why I fled home and later took refuse with a guru," she said.

She said that a guru is an elder who takes care of transgender persons living with him. And in such kind of life, many transgender often become victims of bullets and murders.

Marhakh is mostly involved in the murder cases of transgender persons, according to those privy to the community.

Marhakh can be of two kinds: either he is rich and spends money on a trans person or he can be a poor person depending on the income that a transgender earns through music and dance programmes.

In most cases of murder, a Marhakh has killed a transgender when he sees that she has developed relations with another person, even after he (the killer) had spent money on her needs like makeup, food and others. The killer thinks he is doing the murder "for honour".

In other case when a Marhakh who consumes money from the income of a transgender person can also turn into a killer when he stops receiving money from her.

A female rights activist, wishing anonymity, told The Nation that most of the murder cases occur due to the attitude problem and sour relations between the transgenders and their boyfriends.

"Transgender community have their own language. When they speak, you may not understand their language. And this particular language is transferred orally; there is no book on the trans' language," she added.

She further said that even in the times of the kings, there were trans persons who had the same language they use today. "They use the term 'Marhakh' for boyfriend not just in Pashto but in other languages too. They call Rs100 note a 'Katka', for example," she elaborated.

Recently several transgender persons were shot in Mansehra, Peshawar and other districts and the boyfriends were involved in most of the cases.

Sixers Say Doc Rivers’ Twitter Account Was Hacked - Crossing Broad

Robert Sarver might not have had the worst NBA Friday night. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just search "Doc Rivers" on Twitter and you'll find out quickly.

Saturday morning the Sixers said Doc was hacked and they recovered his account to "undo the likes" –

I'm told Doc Rivers' Twitter account was hacked and the Sixers were able to undo the likes and they are getting his account back to full working order

Doc was informed by a friend about the bizarre activity on his account and it is being taken care of by the team pic.twitter.com/Srwg0EN2Wv

With how much Doc Rivers likes transition, you'd think the Sixers would've been better at it last year. It's shocking that Doc's (ALLEGED) porn fetish isn't "gang bang," since he likes blowing 3 to 1.

Could you imagine being the Sixers PR person who got the weekend call about Doc Rivers liking shemale porn on Twitter? Where does that call rank in Sixers lore? Top 5? Top 10? I imagine the Bryan Colangelo call would be #1. Then Markelle Fultz forgetting how to shoot, Jahlil Okafor beating the shit out of some Celtics fans, kicking Ben Simmons out of practice, and Andrew Bynum injuring his knee bowling round out the top 5 for me. All that happened in the last 10 years. If the Sixers PR staff isn't the highest paid in the NBA, they should be.

At least it gave us a funny night on Twitter:

Lucky for Doc Rivers that he's employed by the Sixers and this is not even close to the most embarrassing thing that's happened to the franchise in the last decade.

Sigh . . . It seems every day there is an article coming out of some African nation that illustrates just how far behind the times its citizens are (i.e. Exhibit A: see preceding post about stoning in Nigeria).

Exhibit B: A report out of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe on the Nehanda Radio site with the following headline: "Gay shemale causes stir in court."

It's what caught my eye on google. I figured some porn star — because the term "shemale" is a porn industry term — had put on a lascivious display in the courtroom. The individual turned out to be a trans woman who was the victim of a citizen's arrest because she had used — or attempted to use — the women's washroom in a hotel.

The term "shemale" when applied to transgender people is dehumanizing and derogatory. (For more information on transgender terminology and words to avoid, see GLAAD's Media reference guide.)

As for the trans person causing a stir, as written in the headline by an editor, it was actually the opposite: the locals caused the stir by gaping at her like she had just just dropped in from another planet. (Maybe the editor was having a bad day.)

Apparently, trans women are rare sights in that corner of the world; many officials from various departments crowded into the courthouse just to see her. Like, this was big for them, and perhaps even bigger for local vendors outside the building . . . One man is quoted as saying: "We've always heard that there are gay people, but I didn't think a man can transform himself into a woman like this."

The writer (and editor) of the article is unclear on trans etiquette and misgenders Ricky Nathanson throughout the story.

And so it goes . . . Zimbabwe bursts upon the global village scene thanks to the wonders of the Internet. We'll follow Ricky's case — she returns to court next month to face criminal nuisance charges . . .

But it all makes me wonder: if the writer (and editor) of the article and others in that country use the Internet, how can they be so far behind the times? And when they do click on to the Internet, what are they reading — and viewing — that would make them use terms like "shemale" to describe a simple trans woman who just wants to live her life in peace and use the washroom facilities that match her gender identity and presentation?
